Voice over internet protocol seems like a cost effective way of making phone calls with added benefits of cost saving. There are great features of service in addition you will also get most of the service you get from a regular phone company for a fee for free. The only concern I have is at an early stage the adoption rate is not that high, it is still only 5 million of US using this service, there is sill ways to go before becoming main stream phone system. If it has not captured a bigger market at an early stages what are the chances of capturing in the further. There are lot of compatibility issues the might arise, this might slow the adoption process. There is also cost of learning is another reason that might hinder growth its can not be integrated to TV services and home security systems unless these industries develop ways to integrate each other it will affect the adoption of and make the process to use VoIP less attracting. The quality of a conversations easily declines as one opens another program or any other computer related problem occurs you might loose the phone call.

There is a way to provide Internet service to rural areas of the world in a cost effective as well as profitable way,given a creative business plan and support of governments/communiteis. But in order to do so there are various other things that need to done. The technology should be par in order to serve these areas, small companies that provide locally tailored value added services and supportive public policy should be present. While there is stillroom for more research, it has been proven that companies are capable of providing Internet service for profit to these areas. While the technology is still a work in progress in terms of speed and the high cost that is needed to implement the necessary infrastructure to provide internet service, the socio economic benefits to the small rural areas is huge for their financial stability and self sustainability of these communities.

The trial done in smaller communities has shown good indication that more of the same project could be beneficial both to small communities and the companies providing the service as well. Given that companies would spend money in doing more research and compete against each other to give their services to these small rural areas, which I feel is the most difficult thing to do. Since most of the companies that are associated in providing Internet service as well as construct the necessary materials for it to be accessible, they might not have enough of a motive or profit line to come in and start building them in many areas. The other side to this is lack of competition, which might have helped in lowering the total associated cost.

My first impression of Maria Cantwell web site was reinforcing the environmental issue, the green theme of the web with green land back ground give the viewer a sense of outdoors. The home page message talks about the how they have stopped the drilling in the arctic, and her promise to fight foreign oil and oil companies. The theme on all her pages is green, there are pics of her out on sites and public, some with Kerry. There were some adds for contribution and informational Ads as well. On couple of the pages there is a former president and Cantwell add to come join them with RSVP information on it. There are lost places where you could see her picture.

My first impression of Mike McGavick we site was the American flag,and interactive. The home page had media clips, email us, radio adds and donate all in the top portion of the web site. It was good that it was interactive but it also could distract if you are looking for a specific information. It might also mean that you must have the equipment to view some of it (the web had some flash application)
There is no one issue that he particularly addresses but he has a list of issues that he wants to focus on which were (war on terror, immigration, health care, environment deficit) This was good in a seasons that he covered a lot of issues but it was also bad because on he is all over in terms of focus. Another interesting thins I found was that there was no picture of the president on his web sites, the news paper sites an analyst on how he should avoid bush, it seems like they are doind that.

My interest Rising gas price, she touches this topic in her home page which got my attention .
On mike web site I couldn't find any information that talked about gas prices or oil dependency.

Our class project today we had to do two lab projects that involved finding RSS feeds.
I picked BBC.com and LATimes.com to see how many RSS feeds they have and then compared the two.
I will start by going over www.bbc.com then i will cmpare that too www.latimes.com

The most common diffrence i have found on the two sites is that LATimes has a sponsord blogs in difrent feilds while the BBC.com dose not have a blog but has a platform that uses blog which is used to post questions (i dont think that can be thechbically be called a blog). Both dont charge a fee to view any of them. Both have incredible debth in the areas they cover from news to sports to poltics. You name is they cover the topics, there is not one domination of topic.

The second part of our project involves exploring the social netwroks enabled by RSS technology.
Every step i took it was mexmrizing to find the amount of information available and how it changes with every change i make to the searching criteria to "truthiness" "funny stuff" the amount of information that it gives me was enormus. When i cllicked to get the tag line, and blog finder it gave me more infomration.

Reading Reflection - week 6

"Will NPR's podcasts birth a new business model for public radio"

The blog post was on how NPR responded to the demand of consumers. They acted quickly when the found out that listener demand for portable audio and with that a chance to find a new business model for working with other stations. This became an overnight success as far as getting to the listeners, but as all good things this has one actually two problems.

1. They can’t track down who is downloading the podcast which makes it hard to segment the market, which in turn makes it hard to target and market.

2. Some one who subscriber to podcast might not actually upload and listen to it.

This new way of broadcasting by podcasting if you will has created another avenue on which they can be more creative, the have no time constraint which give them the opportunity to make public radio more access as it has allowed them to create and podacst new shows as well as give access to smaller radio stations.
What are the implications of blogging on established media?

This is a clear indication of how new media gives many the ability to create and communicate their ideas to many at ones or have it readily available for access by many. My only problem with this is there are so many things of everything out there that it might make things less relevant and in turn make the new media seen as a negative just based on the way we use it.

Questions
1.Do we have a new trend of creating networks or
2.Is there a pressure on companies now to buy in the new media, in fear of competition?
3.What is the contribution of new media in terms of space and storage for servers?

I agree with Jim Moore in his article “The Second Superpower Rears its Beautiful Head.” that the Internet has the potential of creating a second superpower to offset the power of the U.S. He uses an example of ants and says that ants rule from below even though they are very small, if they are out in our space, we will likely to perceive them, and if many see them as danger. I think that there are many examples out there that prove this point. With new media and internet making it readily accessible it’s hard not to imagine a world where information ruling the world. Decision could easily be affected by information and those that get it in time while it is still relevant.

Introduction to internet architecture and institutions.
The article by Zuckerman and McLaughlin on the topic of idea of machines over humans explores the ability of man to think and create mainly the internet, it show cases how amazing and powerful human thinking can be. what happens behind the interenet application is quite amaizing, whats even amiazing is that humans have the capapability to create such a complicated/sofisticated mahine. It also shows the limits of mankind and how machines can be built to achieve what man kind wount be able to do. The development and thechonolgical advancment have helped a lot in various fields.
Are we as high as far as we can in technological adavancment or is their a lot of room for improvemetn and technology? if so where is that gone take man kind?
Has man thinking on thechnology been very dependent on technology itself?

Being Analog
There were a lot of interesting points in the article “Being analog” the one that caught my attention was on ther relationship betweeen humans and macines. Norman points out how our world is shaped by thecnology, and how leave in it. He talks about how mahine not human should adopt to human needs. He mainly argues saying that human are in control now but that could eventually be reversed. machines have been an integral part of societys life in every way, from the work place to our lisuire to business we rey on machine so much that we are bound to be governed by them in the future. He emphasies ho humans should be in control.
What can be done to reverse our dependence on thechnology?
What hapens if few are in chrage of our technological capabalities and avenues will they have more control than anyone else?
Will man at somepoint turn again technolocials development when a point comes that they replace most of us at the work place? Are we only growing in one direction that it will beome impossiible to control the dominance of machines over man?

For my project I plan to do a pod-cast on Search engine optimization. I want to explore it history a little then touch on how it’s affecting searching for information as well as its impact on marketing and how companies are utilizing it to gain competitive advantage.

Information Overload

Carlsons article talks about how the majority of information we have out there is more irelevant than is. He goes on to online publishing such as blog and personal web contribute much to the chances of one pulling out thousands of sources when searching for something online. He also touchs on spam email and the problem that is associated with the freedom we have the information we get from it is becoming less reliable.

While there are lots of information on the internet i am not that confidence on the accuracy. The article talks about how many are not abel to distinguish the reliability of the information we get on the internet. I personally use some search engine to get information from the net. But i mostly try to narrow my search to a very specific topic, even then it gives me thousands of information for most topics. I mostly have to double check the source before using that information. this article mainly touches the literacy of online information, and the huge amount of information that is out there on the internet and how the past few decades have had tons amount of info like no other time in history.

Questions
1.Have search engines helped the cause of having abadon non related staff apear every time we search for something?
If so what are things are there out there to tackle this problem

The article talks about changes in our world in respective to different disciplines. It touches Leibnitz invention of a calculating machine which embodied most of the essential features of recent keyboard devices. There are three areas which he touches that were interesting to see how they were related to technological advancement over time. As well as the development of photograph and it evolving in print, it compares the past to present. It also touches the telephone and its technological advancement for the early days to now. In all the different areas the focus of the article is space in relation to advancement and what itÂs saving us from. It also touches on specialization of different areas as well as the need for it as we move forward.
